AMD has not given up hope in the Phenom II series quad-core processors and is planning to release another high-end Black Edition processor in the Phenom II series. The new Phenom II X4 980 will be clocket at 3.70 GHz and will be based on the Deneb core with a Thermal Envelope of 125W.
This new processor is manufactured from the 45nm SOI processor and will support AM3 and AM2+ based motherboards. The Phenom II X4 980 will be support DDR3 RAM upto PC3-10600 on the AM3 motherboards and wll come with the C3 stepping as in the high end model Phenom II X4 975 processor.
As the name suggests it is a quad core processor with 512KB dedicated L2 cache per core and 6MB share L3 cache with support for HyperThreading upto 2GHz. The operating voltage is rumored to be around 1.4 volts and will be the final processor in the 45nm Deneb core family.
With the Bulldozer processors are expected to arrive in June, we can hope to expect this new Phenom II X4 980 in the coming months.
