Borderlands 2 The Bane is an optional mission available to us after completing The Once and Future Slab.

In order to activate Borderlands 2 The Bane, we have to pick up an old ECHO recorder from the dead body outside Moxxis. By listening to it we can only tell that this is about a legendary weapon, and the only person who might know something about it, is Marcus Kincaid.

Walkthrough

In Borderlands 2 The Bane optional mission, the first thing to do after listening to the ECHO recorder is to go and ask Marcus about the gun known as The Bane. Marcus bought the gun from someone and then sold it for the reason of being cursed, to a guy named Horace in The Dust area.

When we go to The Dust region, we can see a waypoint in the area behind Ellies Garage that is filled with spiderant nests. At the marked location we can find Horaces ECHO recorder, another clue that might lead us to The Bane. We listen to it to find out what happened, and then we head to the next waypoint, close to the Hodunk Speedway region, to find McNallys ECHO recorder.

McNally is near an old shack and will attack us when we get to him. For that reason, its easier if we just kill him using the vehicles weapons and then collect the recorder from him. Listening to it will give us our next waypoint, to Lynchwood, where we have to find a character named Gar.

Next, we have to use the exit point to Lynchwood, by going to the train station in the The Dust (note that if this is the first time when we travel to this area, we can also get some additional optional missions). Here we are faced with the usual bandits, but its possible that they have a closer level to our characters, meaning that we have to be cautious when walking towards the waypoint.

After we exit the train station, we take a left turn and we enter the tunnel. Then we walk the path to village until we reach an underground area. From here, we take the elevator to a higher area that leads us to Gars ECHO recorder, next to his dead body. The clue provided if we listen to it, is to search for The Bane in the cemetery, on the other side of Lynchwood region.

Therefore, we backtrack all the way to the train station, but we dont enter we town. Instead, we take the path on the right side of the station. At the end of it, we use the elevator to go to a mining facility (not the elevator from the tunnel). Here, we have to be careful to the armored skag riders who can quickly run around us, depleting our shield. The proper way to kill them is to use a corrosive weapon. The cemetery is at the edge of the map, in The Grinders region. Once we reach it, we can clearly see theres only one grave. We search that grave, to end Borderlands 2 The Bane mission, and we receive the weapon weve been searching for: a cursed SMG, which we should avoid using.
