How To Use Storage Settings - Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro

Learn how to use storage settings on your Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro. View the device memory and usage, or mount, unmount, or format an optional memory card (not included).

Device Memory

  • From the Settings screen, touch General tab > Storage. The Device memory displays as Total space, System memory, Used space, Cached data, Miscellaneous files, and Available space.

SD Card

  • Once a memory card has been installed in your device, the card memory displays as Total space and Available space.

Mounting an SD Card

When you install a memory card, it is automatically mounted (connected to the tablet) and prepared for use. However, should you unmount the card without removing it from the tablet, you will need to mount it before it can be accessed.

  • Install an SD card. For more information, refer to Insert Memory Card.
  • From the Settings screen, touch General tab > Storage.
  • Touch Mount SD card.

Unmounting an SD Card

Note: To prevent damage to information stored on the memory card, always unmount the card before removing it from the device.

  • From the Settings screen, touch General tab > Storage.
  • Touch Unmount SD card.
  • At the prompt, select OK to safely unmount the memory card.
  • Remove the SD card from the slot.

Note: Unmounting an SD card will stop some applications from functioning. Applications may not be available until you mount the SD card again.

Removing a Memory Card

Note

To prevent damage to information stored on the memory card, unmount the card before removing it from the device.

  • From the Settings screen, touch General tab > Storage.
  • Under SD card, touch Unmount SD card and then touch OK.
  • Open the memory card slot cover and turn to expose the slot.
  • Gently press inward on the memory card so that it pops out from the slot, and carefully pull the card out.
  • Close the memory card slot cover.

Formatting an SD Card

When formatting an SD card you will want to backup your music and photo files that are stored on the card because formatting the SD card deletes all the stored data.

  • From the Settings screen, touch General tab > Storage.
  • Touch Format SD card and then touch Format SD card again on the warning screen.
  • Touch Delete all.

Note
This guide will work on all Samsung Galaxy Tab Pros; including Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2.
