HTC’s Peter Chou wants to have a distinct “timeless piece of design” look that make all their flagship HTC One smartphones immediately recognizable. As a part of this new design plan, the HTC One M9, the latest in their flagship line of smartphones will have striking resemblance to its predecessor, One M8.
“Sometimes, like in the car industry, you need to keep some of your signature DNA,”
“Smartphones sometimes are moving too fast, and not really creating a timeless piece of design.”
The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer is betting that consumers still like the metal-clad body enough — along with some under-the-hood improvements — to give the One family a second look. The One M9 hits the US market on April 10.
“The response has been overwhelming, people like our design,”
As with any design decision, there are people who are don’t agree this decision and Carolina Milanesi, an analyst at Kantar WorldPanel is one of them.
“I am not sure I buy the ‘signature mark,’” said Carolina Milanesi, an analyst at Kantar WorldPanel. HTC may have played its hand already with the introduction of a unibody metal smartphone three years ago, she added.
