Instagram has proudly reached a new milestone. Today, the company has announced that the popular social network has 500 million users.
Some of the statistics given by the company is also interesting. According to Instagram, over 300 million users are accessing the service every day. Also, more than 80 percent of users that use the service are from outside United States.
Instagram has been growing at an accelerated pace. On September 2015, the company was at 400 million users, and it has added 100 million users in just nine months. The previous 100 million took 14 months to achieve.
Instagram is a part of Facebook, and the service has been busy adding new features and improvements over the past few months, including allowing users to upload videos that are as long as 60 seconds.
In May, it introduced a new logo and a redesign of the app itself, and in June it rolled out its new feed algorithm that is supposed to place the posts that users want to see most at the top of the feed. The reason behind the change seems to come from the fact that people tend to miss 70 per cent of the photos in their feed because of the service’s explosion in popularity.
Instagram has evolved in so many ways, that it not only serve as image sharing social network, but has also become a legitimate place for companies to interact with their followers and sell their wares.
