Microsoft RoomAlive project can now turn your room wall into a video game level, Microsoft research project that pair an Xbox Kinect with a projector to extend your TV onto a wall, results in immersive experience.
Redmond just revealed IllumiRoom 2.0 project now called as RoomAlive, the new system projects content throughout a room that you can interact with or shoot as you can see in the video below. They used multiple Kinects and projectors and a control device. They claims that it is completely auto-calibrating and self-locating, enables it to calculate the entire 3D geometry of your room in minutes.
RoomAlive can track multiple you and your weapons while you hit creatures, whack-a-mole style. Theres a game that requires you to physically dodge booby traps, with any failure resulting in a virtual bloody wound projected onto your body.
The procam units are as easy to install as a light fixture. Most projection mapping software requires the designer to calibrate the system by clicking on an image or waving a checkerboard. With RoomAlive, each procam unit is individually auto-calibrating and self-localizing. This means that the user just installs the fixture, and then a unified model of the room across all six procams is created with no user intervention.
