Microsoft Windows 10 phones will not release this summer, as the smartphone builds for Windows 10 are not as far along as the builds for the PC.
It is rumored that Microsoft will release Windows 10 for smartphones and desktop this summer followed by new Lumia Windows 10 Phones. Unfortunately, this is not the case, as the development of smartphone version of Windows 10 is lagging behind the desktop version.
Recently, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore has said that the smartphone builds for Windows 10 are not as far along as the builds for the computers. Technical preview of Windows 10 for phones is available for some time, but the development of the mobile OS is not at the same pace as the desktop version. That slower progress means Windows 10 on phones will show up after the PC launch this summer.
Our phone builds have not been as far along as our PC builds,
We’re adapting the phone experiences later than we’re adding the PC experiences.
From the device view, our main focus is to kick off the Windows 10 launch wave with a great launch on the PC. You should expect that the other devices – phone, HoloLens, Xbox, Surface Hub – will be staggered, probably not on the same date as the PC.
Microsoft is not ready to say exactly when the company will launch Windows 10 and the company is still working on the specifics. Microsoft also admitted that some new features would not be available during launch of Windows 10. One such example is the Microsoft Edge browser, which will be released after Windows 10 release. This means that Windows 10 may launch this summer, but there is going to be a lot of rapid updates, new features, and app changes in the months after launch.
