Netflix announced that they will begin preventing customers from using proxies and unblockers to access contents that are not available in their regions.
This announcement came after Netflix went global by expanding to 130 countries. However, not every country get access to all contents, as some of the shows and movies are region blocked.
Many Netflix users residing in countries other than U.S are using VPNs, proxies to access shows that are not legally available in their countries. These people will not be happy with this announcement, but Netflix says is necessary for its business.
Some members use proxies or “unblockers” to access titles available outside their territory. To address this, we employ the same or similar measures other firms do. This technology continues to evolve and we are evolving with it. That means in coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are. We are confident this change won’t impact members not using proxies.
Netflix also claims that they are working with content providers and renegotiating some of the license deal to remove region locks and bring more content to its users irrespective of their location.
