Watchmaker Nixon has announced their first Android Wear smartwatch, the Nixon Mission. This rugged smartwatch is water resistant up to 100 meters (330 feet) or 10 ATM, and is primarily aimed at surfers and snowboarders/skiers and provides up-to-date info on conditions around the world through a pair of pre-loaded apps.
This Android Wear smartwatch will sport a 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with Gorilla Glass, and the watch itself is made from polycarbonate and stainless steel. The watch is powered by the new Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip from Qualcomm and comes in more than 20 band options and over 15 bezel choices including Cerakote, stainless steel, gunmetal, gold and more. Other features include the standard array of sensor, including GPS, thermometer, altimeter, gyrometer, accelerometer, e-compass, and humidity sensor. It also has 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and a full day of use on a charged battery.
The Mission allows user customization in the form of the finish, bezel, and silicone band colors, in addition to choosing from several digital displays that take on the appearance of Nixon’s other watches.
Along with general sports tracking features, the Mission comes with a suite of software powered by Surfline and SnoCountry, which allow the Mission to receive real-time condition information for surfing, skiing, and snowboarding. This information can be viewed at a quick glance at the Mission’s face.
