Samsung Galaxy R Announced

Samsung has officially launched another smartphone in the Galaxy line up. This time they have come up with Samsung Galaxy R which is mid level smartphone with similar hardware specification to Samsung Galaxy S II. This new Galaxy R will be a cheaper alternative to Galaxy S II and is a hit in Sweden, where it is launched last month as Galaxy Z. This device will soon be made available in Europe and Asia in the coming days with some sacrifice to make it fit in the budget market and will be marketed against LG Optimus 2x.

Features

Screen : 4.19″ Super Clear LCD touch Screen
Camera: 5 MP (with 720p video recording)
Processor: 1 GHz dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 CPU
Memory: 8 GB
Cards: microSD card up-to 32 GB
Video: 1080p Full HD video playback
OS: Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with TouchWiz UI

The Galaxy R will use Super Clear LCD instead of the Super AMOLED Plus display of Galaxy Z and 8 MP Camera of Galaxy Z is replace by 5 MP Camera. The 1.2 GHz dual core Exynos chipset has been swapped by a 1 GHz dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset to market the phone as a mid budget one.

The pricing of the device is going to be vital in marketing in Asian regions, if they have to compete against LG Optimus 2x which is around for some time. In Sweden it was priced around swedish dollar $600 (INR 27,000 approx) and is at the price range of Galaxy S II. But we can hope the price will drop very soon, once they are launched in other countries, particularly in Asia where Galaxy S II was well set in the market. We can’t predict the success of Galaxy R in Europe and Asia, but this is a device to look out for.
